Lombard Veteran's Memorial
Upgrade and Rededication
May 25, 2009
Lombard's Veterans Memorial is located in the
Sunken Garden in Lombard Commons, a beautiful park nearly 50 acres in
size. The memorial itself has been called simply "The Rock."
Ben Pelz, a member of Lombard Boy Scout Troop 51,
decided to upgrade the Veterans Memorial as his Eagle Scout project.

The Veterans Memorial was rededicated on
Memorial Day, May 25, 2009.
The photos on the left and below show the
new flagpoles and flags, paved walkway, and benches by the Rock, along
with the new plaques on the wall and the additional flowers that were
planted as part of the upgrade.

Lincoln, pictured below. |

Both William J. Mueller, President of the

and later Mary Todd Lincoln placed additional flowers there. |

Members of Lombard's VFW Lilac Post 5815
and American Legion Post 391 fired a 21-gun salute. |

The plaque from this ceremony reads, "On May
25, 2009 this area is rededicated to all Military Service Personnel."
It also lists the major contributors, including Eagle Scout Candidate
Ben Pelz and the Lombard VFW Lilac Post 5815 and the Ladies Auxiliary.
